Department in brief
The Department of Chemistry at Lund University provides world-class education and research within a wide area of chemistry.
The Department of Chemistry belongs to both the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Engineering, LTH at Lund University.
All research and education at the department takes place at Kemicentrum, which is Scandinavia's largest center for education and research in chemistry. Kemicentrum also houses the Department of Process and Life Science Engineering, with which the Department of Chemistry has a close collaboration.
The Department of Chemistry has about 345 employees, of whom about 150 are post graduate students. The number of full-time students enrolled in undergraduate studies is almost 500.
Our research
The Department of Chemistry has a unique strength for Sweden with research by internationally leading research groups which ranges from basic to applied research areas. The department also has the advanced instrumentation needed in modern molecular research.
The cross-border research and the close cooperation with the private sector constantly contribute to new innovations and solutions in areas such as technology, medicine, food, energy and the environment.
The Department of Chemistry consists of four reserach centers; The Centre for Analysis and Synthesis (CAS), The Center for Molecular Protein Science (CMPS), The Center for Applied Life Sciences (CALS) and The Center for Physical and Theoretical chemistry. Within our centers there are research groups that conduct teaching and research in specific subject areas.

Education
The Department of Chemistry has a unique strength with undergraduate education in all areas of chemistry as we belong to both the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Engineering, LTH. At the department we also conduct doctoral studies (PhD studies) within various subjects.
The education takes place in close collaboration with research and our teachers are part of nationally and internationally recognized research groups.
We have a broad spectrum of teaching within the subject of chemistry, with teaching at basic and advanced level as well as postgraduate level. We offer our students broad courses that convey basic knowledge in chemistry, as well as many high-level courses that provide advanced knowledge in specialized subjects.
Management and organisation
The Department of Chemistry is headed by a department board and the head of department. The head of department has an executive function and responsibility for daily operations. In support, the head of department has a management group consisting of deputy heads of department, our administrative manager and representatives for our research centers. There are also several preparing and consultative organs.
The department has a joint administration, the Administrative unit, which is led by our administrative manager.
